The sling back heel just has a strap that goes around the back of the achilles heel. This provides a more elegant look while still achieving the function of stabilization.
Slingbacks can be considered a type of sandal and come in a variety of styles, with heel heights ranging from flat to high, heel types ranging from as thin as a stiletto to as thick as wedges and they may be either closed or open-toe.

Shortly after World War II, there was a demand for femininity amongst women. Consequently, the iconic stiletto emerged at this time. Below is a classic stiletto. The highest of all heels.

The history of high heeled shoes

High heeled shoes were worn centuries ago. They were wooden soled and were interestingly traced back to Persian horse riders who used heels for functionality to help hold their feet in stirrups, features that are similar to today’s riding boots. They did not become mainstream until royals started to wear them. High heels have fallen in and out of popular fashion trends since the second world war. Today high heels are very popular and can range in height from 1.5 inches to over 6 inches. The shape of the heel has also changed from a block style to a tapered stiletto style.
